Foot and hand reflexology

Picture
Reflexology is usually given through the gentle pressure of reflexes on the feet. Reflexes on the feet (and hands) relate to different areas of the body and the therapist uses their own fingers and thumbs to work these reflexes to help bring about well-being. The application and effect of this holistic treatment is unique to each person, with most finding it deeply relaxing.

The same effects can be achieved by working the reflexes on the hands. This is particularly useful when there is an injury to the leg/ankle/foot, as the reflexes of the corresponding hand can be treated.

Hand reflexology can be given as a full treatment, or added to a foot reflexology treatment for even deeper relaxation and therapeutic effect.

How are sessions tailored to meet my needs?

Only shoes and socks need to be removed to receive reflexology. During the initial session a consultation form is completed. This enables me to collect relevant information and consider what course of reflexology treatment and adaptations in order to develop the most beneficial treatment plan for you. The treatment plan is agreed together to ensure you are totally happy before treatment begins. All records are confidential.

During the treatment, I use my thumbs and fingers to apply pressure to the reflexes. The application and effect of the therapy is unique to each person, with most finding it deeply relaxing. Findings are discussed at the end of the treatment.

The balm/oil used to provide the treatment is chosen depending upon clients needs and wishes. All mediums are organic, and many contain essential oils blended to help meet the clients treatment needs. Examples include:
  • organic sunflower oil - suitable for those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatments
  • organic massage balms - for structural reflexology, either unscented or containing arnica essential oils for muscle inflammation/joint pain or bruising
  • organic balms - including clary sage and geranium (meopause blend), lavender (for rebalancing all systems), mandarin pregnancy blend (one of the only essentail oils that is suitable for all stages of pregnancy), tea tree and mint (immune boosting blend), rose and geranium (hormonal balancing), and geranium with ylang ylang (fertility blend)

What to expect after treatment

For some clients, applying pressure to the reflexes on the hands can be helpful to support their treatment. In these cases I will demonstrate how to do this and provide information for you to take home with you. In addition, I may offer additional holistic suggestions to support this process.

Everyone is individual and some respond to reflexology more quickly than others. Some people notice improvements immediately, while others with longer term problems or ailments, are likely to require more sessions. Most usually notice a difference after 4-6 sessions, for many it is much quicker and some even notice a change whilst in the treatment chair. In addition to changes in symptom patterns, common responses following treatment are:
  • deep relaxation & calmness
  • release of tension
  • improved mood
  • increased sense of well-being
  • improved quality of sleep
